Important information regarding Florida Bill 1718 that will go into effect July 1st, 2023
Please be aware that starting July 1, 2023, Bill 1718 will go into effect requiring private employers with 25 or more employees to use the E-Verify system for new employees.
This bill also expands penalties for employers who fail to comply with E-Verify requirements, including the possible suspension and revocation of employer licenses and the imposition of specific penalties on employers that knowingly employ illegal aliens.
This last part, regarding penalties to knowingly employing illegal aliens is hard to monitor, and might be done by anonymous tips.
If you have more than one location, but together employ more than 25 employees this will apply to you as you are treated as one employer.
If you process payroll through a company such as ADP, Paychex or any other please check with the company, as they probably offer E-Verify integration.
Again, this bill was signed into Florida law by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on May 10th and will be effective July 1st, 2023.
